Inflammation or swelling of the vagina could be the result of an allergic reaction,
a yeast or bacterial infection, or a sexually transmitted infection. Conventional culture techniques are limited in being able to produce the growth of certain pathogens and leaves the provider with uncertainty. PCR is 3-5X more sensitive than conventional culture techniques. RT-PCR testing reflects specificity and sensitivity of 98-100% and results are routinely available to clinicians within 24-48 hours.
